Happy Holidays...

Belated Happy Holidays to all of you.
I hope you've recovered from overeating, overspending, over...

Life seems to have stepped in my way and sidetracked my writing. This will be one of my main resolutions in the coming new year---get more writing done.
Have you any interesting resolutions you would like to share?

I’ve changed the covers of some of my books, so when you go to my Amazon author page, you’ll see some new books over there.
Next year, when some of my books are off Amazon Select i.e not Amazon exclusive, I’ll be putting them up for sale on other ebook sites, so you should be able to find them everywhere :)

Happy Holidays, once again, and best wishes.

I haven't been so excited about Friday since last Friday.

The cover for my new book is ready!!! I am really excited about it. (I hope I won't change my mind about the title.) I am plucking up my courage to show it to you all. I'll probably do a cover reveal on FB a few days before the release of my new book. Pop by and say hello.

 Have a great weekend.

The Final Countdown ;)

My book is nearing completion. I finished the last chapter...yay! The only problem is that a whole chapter, toward the end, still has to be written. The whole book somehow crystallized in my mind, and I simply had to get the final chapter on paper. So, there you have it. I have a The End, but still have a long way to go. Don’t worry, not that long. ;) It is a light time-travel romance, with some mystery thrown in, and I’m very happy with it.
Check in here, FB, or my Amazon page for news.
P.S. You could also sign up to my new release mailing list, and be first to know when the book comes out.

Suggest a Name

I need a couple of male and female medieval names for the new book I am writing.
The men are in their twenties, interesting (goodies), and their names should make you want to pick up the book. Any suggestions?
I also need at least one bad-guy medieval name (British, 16th century).
The book is a time-travel mystery/romance, moving from the present to the past and back again.
You may send me an email, tweet @denisetempley, ...
Thanks. Wildly appreciated.  :*)

Animated Book Covers

I have been playing around with animations recently and came to the conclusion that they would be great for book covers. I am not sure that Amazon supports animations, but for the time being you can see one of them on this page (Portal to Your Heart). I whipped it up quickly, and I hope you like it.
I might even come up with something for The Perses Touch.

Books About Dogs

Are you looking for books about dogs? Well, you have come to the right place.
I love animals, dogs in particular. I simply had to include one of my pets in one of my books.
The Perses Touch is a romantic mystery novel (involving cyber crime). Suki, a beautiful German Shepherd, plays quite an important role in the book. She simply refused to be left out and prances across a lot of the pages. She will make you laugh, sometimes even cry (spoiler alert: not to worry...not too much crying).
I hope you will enjoy the book.

P.S. Don't forget to sign up to my mailing list for news about new books.

Pomodoro Technique

Have you heard about the Pomodoro writing technique?
I have been hearing about it for simply ages, but have never thought to give it a go. Starting tomorrow, I hope, I intend to change this and will fill you in on what it is and how it works for me. Wish me luck.

BTW Have you noticed my mailing list link above-right?

My Monday Blues...WIP

My WIP (Work in Progress) is giving me a hard time. My characters seem to have a mind of their own. I head them in one direction, but they simply do not listen. New characters jump in unexpectedly and want to take over the show. Phew. I am trying to get them out of the scene by not giving them a name (or surname), but we will see how that goes. My characters seem to know that it’s Monday today and that I’m at my weakest.
Bye for now.

Amazon - New Feature

There is a new feature on Amazon.

In the top right corner of my author page there is a Stay Up To Date block. You can click there to be notified, by Amazon, about my new releases.

How neat is that!
I have a new book planned quite soon. Be the first to be notified about it :)

Have a nice weekend.

EDIT: The feature makes an appearance from time to time. Perhaps it is something they are just testing :(

The Willow Tree

While writing my novella, Portal to Your Heart, I came upon many interesting facts about the willow tree.

In Japanese tradition, the willow tree is associated with ghosts. It is supposed that a ghost will appear where a willow grows.

Willow Tree
The Willow Tree
Hippocrates has left records of pain relief treatment. Powder from the bark and leaves of the willow tree help relieve headaches, pains and fever. Willow bark contains salicin which traces its way to Aspirin.

Trees
Sara Coleridge 1802-1852

The Oak is called the king of trees,
The Aspen quivers in the breeze,
The Poplar grows up straight and tall,
The Peach tree spreads along the wall,
The Sycamore gives pleasant shade,
The Willow droops in watery glade,
The Fir tree useful timbers gives,
The Beech amid the forest lives.

The Weeping Willow Tree
In the morning light I see,
By the gate, a willow tree.
In the wind it swirls like sea,
Cool and green and grey.
In the dark I see it stir
Like a cloud of witches’ hair.
Strange that tree by day so fair,
At nighttime frightens me.

One more interesting fact. Did you know that ice hockey sticks were originally made from maple or willow trees. However, it became more economical to use yellow ash and birch ash.

D - for DAY

FriDay!

This is MY day.
This is the day when I can do what I like, once I get home. I always feel that I have all the time in the world ahead of me...even if it is only several hours. I have time to pick up a new book...to reeead - do not touch me then. I have time to add a few lines to the new novel I am writing. Time to catch up with friends. I can pretend not to see the all the work that waits for me at home. I leave that for Saturday or the following week (not a good option, I know).
Enjoy your day. I know I shall.

‘Freedom’ by Anthony Hamilton & Elayna Boynton #1 for Motivation

I like to listen to music while I write. Sometimes it motivates me, sometimes not.
The last couple of days - words simply flow - no stopping them. Why?
Listen to the Freedom soundtrack:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bdOTUocn5w

All I have to say is Thank You to Anthony Hamilton and Elayna Boynton.

I have not seen the movie Django Unchained.  That is something I have to see to ASAP.

I have Freedom in my bookmarks, and it simply sets my fingers in motion, on the keyboard.

Unbelievable!!

Got to go, my book waits impatiently for new words.

B is for ...

... BLOG.

How often should one post? I believe the answer should be: when there is something earth-shattering to report. Well, nothing earth-shattering, for me, today. I guess that is OK, since it can go both ways: earth-shattering-good and also earth-shattering-bad.

I'm well into my new novel. I've been thinking about having a map inside. Any thoughts? Do you ever look at maps in novels you read? I, personally, look at them fleetingly, and never as a tourist, wanting to find his/her way around. I like to envision the area myself, while reading the book, so the proffered map is sometimes a let-down. I occasionally cast a glance at the maps when I've already finished reading the book.

My novel is nowhere near completion, so I have more than enough time to fight this out with myself. A word of advice would be of help. Do you like/look at maps, or are they simply pictures that brighten up a book?

B is also for Book.
