The Willow Tree

While writing my novella, Portal to Your Heart, I came upon many interesting facts about the willow tree.

In Japanese tradition, the willow tree is associated with ghosts. It is supposed that a ghost will appear where a willow grows.

Willow Tree
The Willow Tree
Hippocrates has left records of pain relief treatment. Powder from the bark and leaves of the willow tree help relieve headaches, pains and fever. Willow bark contains salicin which traces its way to Aspirin.

Trees
Sara Coleridge 1802-1852

The Oak is called the king of trees,
The Aspen quivers in the breeze,
The Poplar grows up straight and tall,
The Peach tree spreads along the wall,
The Sycamore gives pleasant shade,
The Willow droops in watery glade,
The Fir tree useful timbers gives,
The Beech amid the forest lives.

The Weeping Willow Tree
In the morning light I see,
By the gate, a willow tree.
In the wind it swirls like sea,
Cool and green and grey.
In the dark I see it stir
Like a cloud of witches’ hair.
Strange that tree by day so fair,
At nighttime frightens me.

One more interesting fact. Did you know that ice hockey sticks were originally made from maple or willow trees. However, it became more economical to use yellow ash and birch ash.

D - for DAY

FriDay!

This is MY day.
This is the day when I can do what I like, once I get home. I always feel that I have all the time in the world ahead of me...even if it is only several hours. I have time to pick up a new book...to reeead - do not touch me then. I have time to add a few lines to the new novel I am writing. Time to catch up with friends. I can pretend not to see the all the work that waits for me at home. I leave that for Saturday or the following week (not a good option, I know).
Enjoy your day. I know I shall.
